It's all about fun and learning

Below is a brief explanation of what to expect when your child is playing First Kicks or Fun Football at Rodney District Sports Football. At the right of this page is the NRF Junior Handbook which we suggest you download and refer to. Pages 11 - 13 are specifically relevant to your young players age group. It explains the philosophy's and approach to football in 2025, and will help you enjoy what your young player is achieving.

Players aged between 4 and 8 enjoy fun-based drills and games each week on Saturday mornings between 8:30 and 9:45am at Metro Park, Millwater. The emphasis is firmly on "fun". Some time is spent learning the basic skills, and the remainder involves non-competitive games where game concepts are introduced.

Players aged 4, 5 & 6 are our First Kicks participants.

Those aged 7 & 8 are Fun Footballers. 8 year old girls can elect to play in a girls only team if they wish.

Fees:

For 4 - 8 year olds, a full season of First Kicks or Fun Football will be $60, which includes the use of an RDS uniform (shirt and shorts).

Note: Purple RDS socks are optional and can be purchased on a Saturday morning during our First Kicks/Fun Football (8:30 -9:45am) from the portacabin office at Metro Park. The socks are $15 per pair.

Dates:

Registrations will open on the RDS website early January 2025, and close on 1 March 2025. We will take registrations thereafter only if we have any teams that need additional numbers.

Please register as soon as possible. This will help us get those teams registered into their appropriate NRF grades. Early registration also helps us fulfil any preferences and/or friend requests you have.

The season start date is 5 April 2025.

Coaching/Supervising:

We ask for volunteers to coach each team that is playing this season.

For 4 - 8 year old First Kicks/Fun Footballers (8:30 to 9:45am on Saturday mornings), this is more of a supervisory roll, as the skill games used, are easily guided with use of an online app and assistance from us.The emphasis is on fun. It can be shared by more than one parent to cover absences, though co-ordination is the responsibility of those that are noted as the team coach/manager.
